Caribbean Cloudscapes

Most of my work is rooted right here in Humboldt County, but every once in a while the camera goes on vacation too. This collection comes from the Caribbean — and if you've ever been out on the open water down there, you already know what makes the sky so extraordinary. The clouds are different. They build taller, they move faster, and the light that comes off the water underneath them turns everything into a painting. I spent a good amount of time just looking up — and photographing what I saw.

There is something almost therapeutic about a Caribbean cloudscape. The colors are bold in a way that Northern California skies rarely are — deep saturated blues, blinding whites, the warm gold of a Sint Maarten sunset bleeding out across the horizon. These are images that fill a room with light and warmth, and they look stunning large.
