Barns

There is something about an old barn that gets me every time. Maybe it's the way they seem to belong to the landscape around them — shaped by decades of weather, leaning slightly into the prevailing wind, worn down to exactly the right shade of red or gray. Barns are working buildings, but they're also storytellers, and the ones I've photographed across Humboldt County and beyond have stories worth hearing. You'll find barns here at golden hour when the light turns everything warm and cinematic, barns at night with the aurora glowing overhead and the Milky Way doing its thing, barns in the fog, barns with rainbows, barns with a red-winged blackbird perched just where it needed to be. These are some of my favorite images I've ever made — the kind of shots where the whole drive out to the middle of nowhere turns out to have been completely worth it.
