The night sky has always felt like the final frontier of photography — the place where patience, planning, and a little bit of luck come together to create something that stops people cold. The images in this collection were made in the dark, on cold nights along the Humboldt County coast, beneath the Milky Way arching over sea stacks and covered bridges, and chasing the northern lights from Moonstone Beach to Luffenholtz to Tepona Point. Some were made as far away as Iceland, where the aurora burns overhead on a scale that has to be seen to be believed.
