Jeffrey Schwartz is a fine art photographer based in McKinleyville, California, specializing in landscape, nature, and portrait photography throughout Humboldt County and the Northern California coast. His work captures the dramatic beauty of one of the most extraordinary and underrated regions in the country — the rugged sea stacks of Trinidad State Beach, the volcanic rock and crashing surf at Camel Rock and Luffenholtz Beach, the smooth stones and reflected light at Moonstone Beach, and the ancient coast redwood forests that press right down to the edge of the Pacific.

Jeff has been based in Humboldt County since the late 1980s, and that length of time shows in the work. These aren't the images of someone passing through with a camera — they're the images of a photographer who knows where the light falls in November, which trails lead to the hidden waterfalls, and exactly when to be at Tepona Point to catch the Milky Way rising over the ocean. The result is a body of work that feels deeply rooted in this place, because it is.

The collection spans a wide range of subjects and moods. On the coast, you'll find golden-hour sunsets over sea stacks, long-exposure surf, aurora borealis photographed right here from the Northern California shoreline, and intimate beach details — tide pools, starfish, wildflowers blooming on the clifftops. In the forests, there are ancient redwood groves shot in morning fog, shafts of light breaking through the canopy, fern-lined creek canyons, and the quiet magic of a forest waterfall in winter. The astrophotography collection includes Milky Way images from some of Humboldt's darkest coastal locations, aurora photographs from both Northern California and Iceland, and comet imagery that required being in exactly the right place at exactly the right moment. There are also barns, cows, wildlife, cityscapes from New York and Oslo, cloudscapes from the Caribbean, and black and white work that spans all of the above.
